I know everyone has different needs, what they love ... but I've never been to a wedding, if something makes you say, "What were they thinking?"
I went to a wedding yesterday, and instead of buying a cake for the bride and groom have bought hundreds of tiny banana cheesecake Kroger. I've just noticed that the cupcakes in their packaging with the labels still slightly sticky.

I went to a wedding of my friend from his childhood, where the bride in a dress "made me shudder. It was bound in two parts. The best round his neck like a bikini top and fell so low that her breasts were in danger of increasing. So chaotic that their marriage was in fact one of the happiest couples I know and that their marriage is still strong after 10 years!
You're right that everyone has different tastes - I have several weddings where I have been thinking, "EW", but it's just his style.
To me it's Tackiest matter if the guests, members of the family or the bride and groom make a scene - someone who is drunk, someone has begun to attract attention or make a toast insensitive, etc.
I was at a wedding where the maid of honor (sister of the bride) crashed during the reception and a toast to the method of "rhythm" of birth control, without her sister (the bride) could not be born. I'm from the Northeast and attended a wedding in the Midwest. The day after the wedding, the guests visited the house of the parents of the bride and groom to see bride open the gifts.
